Nascar Driver Uniform Bans Through the Years

This is a work of parody

Last week Joey Logano was penalized $10,000 and a pass-through for driving with an altered racing glove (which, in theory, would’ve made his car somewhat more aerodynamic).  While this was the first time in recent memory that a driver was penalized for a piece of his uniform, it was not the first time:

1953: Tim Flock’s simian passenger “Jocko Flocko” is put on indefinite probation for refusing to wear pants.

1972: Richard Petty is docked 25 driver’s and owner’s points for wearing a t-shirt promoting his movie “43: The Richard Petty Story” under his uniform on the grounds of the movie being terrible.

1981: Dave Marcis incurs a small fire for afoul of a recently introduced rule requiring all Goodyear hats to be changed out every five years or 200 races (whichever comes first).

1989: Jimmy Spencer risks disqualification from a number of early-season races for running with a non-flame-retardant toupee.

1998: After his success with a “lucky penny” at the Daytona 500, Dale Earnhardt fails pre-race inspection at several races for attempting to wear a firesuit made entirely out of four-leaf clovers.

2008: Morgan Shepherd is fined $2,500 for mistakenly wearing an undershirt from the 90’s.  The fine is suspended when Shepherd revealed that the shirt was left-over from when he started his career in 1899.

2020: Upon realizing he was not wearing an approved set of underwear, Timmy Hill throws himself out of his own sim-rig during Nascar’s iRacing series.
