Kyle Busch 1985-2026

My sincere condolences to Kyle Busch’s family, friends, and fans.  The news today is an absolute shocker—I literally yelled out “WHAT???” at my phone when I read it.  Rowdy’s stats speak for themselves, but let’s not lose sight of who was lost today—a father, a husband, a son, a brother, a friend.  I’m sure everyone will be racing this upcoming weekend with a heavy heart.

Race Picks Charlotte: Spade Racing vs. AI

Join me as I test my wits against various AI programs in picking the 2026 Cup races.  Once they’ve made their picks, I’ll make my normal Favorite, Next Favorite, and Dark Horse picks (in addition to my regular O’Reilly & Truck Series picks).  At the end of the year we’ll see who knows more—me, or a soulless machine gobbling up water and electricity.

Grok (1 win) sez: My pick: Tyler Reddick has the best shot if his car is anywhere near as fast as it has been most of 2026.

Truck Series (1 win) NC Education Lottery 200 Friday 8pm ET on FS1: KYLE BUSCH—Groundhog Day in May.  UPDATE—KADEN HONEYCUTT due to Kyle Busch being out.

O’Reilly Series (1 win) Carbroil 300 Saturday 5pm ET on CW: ROSS CHASTAIN—too bad the Trackhouse guys are only doing well when they don’t race Trackhouse cars.

Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 6pm on Prime  FAVORITE (1 win): RYAN BLANEY—rebounding from last week’s crash-fest at Dover.  NEXT FAVORITE (2 wins): CHRISTOPHER BELL—Toyota keeps up their fever pace.  DARK HORSE (1 win): an AUSTIN—Cindric or Dillon, take your pick.

Spade Racing Opens 2 Blaster Boxes of 2025 Panini Prizm Cards—Pack 12 of 12

Rather than a “hobby box”, I decided to go with the more economical choice of two “Blaster Boxes” for the 2025 Panini Prizm cards (although they were bought in January 2026.  With six packs of five cards each in each box, that’s twelve packs to open!

Pack 12: Two cars, future stars, and reputation mars

First Look: I’m a sucker for the classic “profile shot of a car” card.

To the Back: In theory Jesse is setting himself up to take over the 8 car once Kyle Busch retires of leaves.  Well, unless Ty Gibbs wants the ride.

Say What: “Maybe I shouldn’t have complained as much over the years”.

Final Rating: 4 post-race interviews out of 10

Foundational Bricks—The 1994 Brickyard 400: 20th, Hut Stricklin

Join me as I take a look back every Monday at the starting lineup for one of the biggest races in NASCAR history, the inaugural Brickyard 400.

Starting 20th: Hut Stricklin #23 Smokin Joe’s/Camel Travis Carter Enterprises Ford

Finished: 36th (DNF—Oil Line)

Stricklin's 1994 race car
Career Highlights: Fourth-place finish in the 1993 Daytona 500, one-time Cup pole winner, last top fives for the King Racing team, kept losing his rides to Jimmy Spencer for some reason.

Total Brickyard 400 Starts: 7

Best Brickyard 400 Finish: 14th (2000)

1994 Fun Fact: Hut finished 26th in points in 1994 driving the Smokin’ Joe’s Camel car.  And yes, I also find it odd that they had a driver who neither smoked nor was named Joe.

19 Fun(ny) Facts About Delaware

As some of you may know, I’m a Delaware resident.  With the All-Star Race coming to Dover Motor Speedway this year, here’s 19 fun(ny) facts about my home state, in honor of the 19 drivers locked into the final segment:

1.) Delaware’s official nickname is “The First State”, in honor of Delaware being the first state to ratify the constitution, as well as likely being first in polluted water in the country.

2.) Delaware only has three counties, something that I don’t think has anything to do with Dale Earnhardt, but you can never be sure.

3.) Delaware’s population is a little over one million people, most of whom have developed a tolerance to Grotto’s Pizza.

4.) Delaware is the second-smallest state in terms of total area.  Yeah, Rhode Island is smaller, but they don’t have a gigantic statue of a race track’s mascot!

5.) Delaware is the only state in the country where you can “sell” your license plate, developing a cottage industry for low-numbered license plates.  It’s like luxury cars in Beverly Hills or Greenwich, but more digit-based.

6.) State insignia include the official bird (blue hen), flower (peach blossom), beverage (milk), and odd view (seeing a nuclear cooling tower from the old upper deck at racetrack).

7.) Wilmington is the largest city in Delaware, with over 70,000 residents, most of which regularly sit in traffic on I-95 to get to and from work.

8.) Hartly is the smallest town in Delaware, with only 73 residents as of the 2020 census.  Kind of like the Dave Marcis of towns (doing a lot with a little) minus the wingtips.

9.) The area below the Chesapeake and Delaware (C&D) Canal is affectionately known as “Slower Lower” Delaware.  Although it’s called that for the slower pace of life, sometimes it feels like it’s called that for the slow traffic jams on beach weekends.

10.) Dover becomes almost as big as Wilmington (in terms of population) on race day—and that doesn’t include the people whiling away their days in the attached casino.

11.) The best-known resident of Delaware is Joe Biden, who I’ve never met, but I sat in enough “Joe Jams” or “Biden Backups” due to his motorcade to feel his presence.

12.) The best-known celebrity from Delaware is likely Aubrey Plaza, who I’ve never met, but would be open to meeting her if she’s interested in someone who can yammer on about the history of Team Sabco in the 90’s for hours on end.

13.) Delaware doesn’t have any of the “big four” sports franchises, but it very briefly had a quasi-major league baseball team in the 19th century called the Wilmington Quicksteps, who infamously drew ZERO fans to a game.  Yeah.

14.) Dover Motor Speedway shares the facility with Dover Downs, a harness horse racing track inside the Nascar track.  So if you ever wondered why pit lane is so narrow, that’s why.

15.) The northern boundary between Delaware and Pennsylvania is the “Twelve-Mile Circle”, the only state territorial boundary in the country that is a true circle.  There.  That’s a thing you know.

16.) There are only three “villages” in Delaware (known as “the Ardens”), a leftover of a taxation experiment in the early 20th century, kind of like how Hendrick & Gibbs are the only teams who still have four chartered entries.

17.) A majority of US companies are incorporated in Delaware due to its business-friendly law system, advantageous business taxes, and, possibly, because there’s so many good Italian hoagie places to go to for lunch.

18.) There’s a small Amish population near Dover (which I’ve driven by many times), that is likely the only area near Dover that doesn’t sell raceday tickets, parking, or cold drinks.

19.) If you’re going to the race today, enjoy yourself, stay safe, and stay far, far away from scrapple.

First Look: Tootsies Talisman.  Tootsies Talisman.  Tootsies Talisman.  Tootsies Talisman.  Tootsies Talisman.  Tootsies Talisman.  Tootsies Talisman.  Tootsies Talisman.  Tootsies Talisman!

To the Back: I like to think that Joey’s so competitive that he’s competing with Chase Briscoe this year to see who looks better with a shaved head.

Say What: “OK, remember, it’s AutoVentive, not AutoWentive.  Wait, is it?”

Foundational Bricks—The 1994 Brickyard 400: 19th, Rich Bickle

Join me as I take a look back every Monday at the starting lineup for one of the biggest races in NASCAR history, the inaugural Brickyard 400.

Starting 19th: Rich Bickle #9 Orkin Melling Racing Ford

Finished: 29th

Bickle in retirement, wearing
his 1994 fire suit
Career Highlights: Four-time Slinger Nationals winner, Five-time Snowball Derby winner, fourth-place finish at Martinsville in 1998, no relation to Travis.

Total Brickyard 400 Starts: 5

Best Brickyard 400 Finish: 29th (1994)

"Making the race 19th out of
80+ cars" --Rich Bickle 45

1994 Fun Fact: 1994 was a difficult year for Rich on-track, as he was mostly uncompetitive in a mostly unsponsored Melling Racing car.  On the plus side, he didn’t have to pretend to like SPAM.
