2023 Nascar Cup Series Preview: Pair off in Threes (Part 3)

PART 3: Uncle Max vs. The Tarot Cards

Uncle Max had a pretty easy time of it in 2022 picking against a roulette wheel.  So for 2023 I thought he should have to pick against a higher power…or maybe even a LOWER power.

Enter the Tarot.

Using a traditional deck of 78 Tarot Cards I’ll be using the otherworldly power of the Tarot to divine race winners in 2023.  Here’s how each card is assigned, and why:

NUMBERED/ACE CARDS:

Ace through 10 of Pentacles: Points positions 1-10

Ace through 10 of Cups: Points positions 11-20

Ace through 10 of Swords: Points positions 21-30

Ace of Wands: Points leader

II of Wands: 2nd in points

III of Wands: 3rd in points

IV of Wands: 4th in points

V of Wands: 5th in points

VI or VII of Wands: Last year’s race winner

VIII of Wands: Draw again

IX or X of Wands: Open entry or Rick Ware Racing

CHARACTER/FACE CARDS:

The Magician: ROSS CHASTAIN, for making wins appear out of nowhere

Knight of Wands: AUSTIN CINDRIC, having car trouble? Go to Discount Tire and voila!

The (grand) Sun: AUSTIN DILLON

The Lovers: KEVIN HARVICK, for having a pretty cool, long-lasting marriage

The Chariot: KYLE LARSON, since he drives Mr. H’s company car

The Hierophant: BRAD KESELOWSKI, for being a diviner of interesting opinions

Knight of Cups: COREY LAJOIE, since he seems like a cool guy to drink with

The Devil: KYLE BUSCH, of course

The Star: Perennial most popular driver CHASE ELLIOTT

King of Cups: ARIC ALMIROLA, because you need a drink after some Smithfield pork

King of Swords: DENNY HAMLIN, who’s always ready ready to fight if necessary

Temperance: RYAN BLANEY, since he seems calm cool and collected

The Moon: CHASE BRISCOE, for his Newman/Harvick-esque hairline

The Fool: AJ ALLMENDINGER, as a compliment!

Knight of Pentacles: CHRIS BUESCHER, since I couldn’t think of anything else for him

The Hermit: MARTIN TRUEX JR., since he’s rarely seen outside his two dozen home tracks

The Hanged Man: HARRISON BURTON, hung out of dry of the powerful Penske trio?

The Emperor: reigning champion JOEY LOGANO

Judgement: BUBBA WALLACE, who seems to have his own code of honor on-track

King of Wands: WILLIAM BYRON, for contending out of nowhere like magic

King of Pentacles: JUSTIN HALEY, for escaping the Braun Racing curse

The Tower: MICHAEL MCDOWELL, because he’s so tall

Page of Wands: TODD GILLILAND, since he apparently used magic to get into Cup

Justice: RYAN PREECE, for finally getting a good Cup ride

Knight of Swords: NOAH GRAGSON, will he stay feisty in Cup?

Page of Cups: ERIK JONES, something to wash down your Focus Factor

Strength: ALEX BOWMAN, staying strong from journeyman to star

The High Priestess: TY GIBBS, will he become the next Austin Dillon?

Page of Swords: TY DILLON, having to fight off criticism (no matter how well-earned)

Page of Pentacles: THE LIVE FAST 78 CAR, magically changing out drivers

The World: DANIEL SUAREZ, because one international driver IS progress
