Musically Declined: Kyle Petty, Hard Times

Kyle Petty—racer, philanthropist, commentator, and musician!  Kyle’s musical exploits have been going on since the 80’s, but just how good are they?  Let’s take a look back at the songs of Nascar’s favorite long-haired scion.

The Song: Hard Times (…I think)

The Star: Kyle Petty

The Clip: https://youtu.be/4I7ojCBn2JU?t=235

The Review: A pretty decent wistful song about living through difficult times, Kyle performed this on a North Carolina local news station to promote both his book (which I highly recommend) and an upcoming performance.  Unfortunately the video cuts off a little early but it seemed good to me.  And yes, it hurts me to NOT make a Dusty Rhodes joke here.

The Verdict: Decent song about a difficult topic.

Spade Racing 2x4: Christopher Bell vs. Tyler Reddick, June Report

Spade Racing has watched the 2020 Cup Series Rookie Class winnow down from six full-time drivers to only two entering their fourth season at the sport’s highest level: Christopher Bell and Tyler Reddick.  We’ll keep following them, but here’s how things look going into the WWT/Gateway race:

Both Bell & Reddick could wind up
in the Nascar Hall of Fame, while Cole
Custer could wind up buying a ticket
to visit it.

POINTS STANDINGS: Christopher Bell has slid a bit in points recently, but is still ahead of Tyler Reddick in the points by one position.  Just 20 points stands between the two of them…something that is essentially rendered meaningless due to the current points system.  Advantage: BELL

BEST FINISH: Both Bell and Reddick have one win each, so this is still a draw.  No, I don’t award co-champions like the first “season” of the IRL.  Advantage: push

PERFORMANCE RELATIVE TO TEAMMATES: Martin Truex Jr. has edged his way ahead of Bell in the standings, with Denny Hamlin close behind.  Reddick, meanwhile, maintains a shrinking but comfortable lead over teammate Bubba Wallace.  This is a close one, but Advantage: REDDICK

FINAL SCORE: I don’t like to do this, but this one is an overall push, although a photo finish might be a better way to phrase it.  Its just like the first Daytona 500 but way, way, WAY less important.
