Race Picks (the last season?), Uncle Max vs. The Points Leader: NASHVILLE

So I didn’t get to watch most of last weekend’s races due to work (getting my hours in before vacation starts) so I didn’t get to check out the new Prime telecast on Amazon.  And it looks like there’s mostly positive reviews from those who ACTUALLY WATCHED IT.

Of course there’s still some gripers, mostly people who “don’t want to pay to watch the race”.  Um, do they not understand how cable tv works?  And even if you watch on NBC or Fox, you STILL need to pay for TV and electricity, unless you’re watching outside an appliance store like it’s 1952.  Seriously, folks—get with the program and get the program.

TRUCK SERIES (3 wins) Rackley 200 (Friday 8 ET on FS1) COREY HEIM—its Corey’s world, other drivers just occasionally wreck each other in it.

XFINITY SERIES (1 win) Tennessee Lottery 250 (Saturday 7:30pm ET on CW) AUSTIN HILL—“Tennesseein is Tennebelievin’!”.

CUP SERIES Cracker Barrel 400 (Sunday 7pm ET on Prime) Points Leader picks WILLIAM BYRONFavorite (2 wins): KYLE LARSON—recovery from last week’s disaster.  No, the other one.  Next Favorite (1 win): TYLER REDDICK—fun fact—Tyler has TWO teammates this year.  Dark Horse: AUSTIN CINDRIC—awkward?  What awkward?

Spade Racing Opens 10 Value Packs of 2012 Press Pass Cards: 7 of 10

Here’s my latest haul—ten 8 card packs of 2012 Press Pass Cards.  So join me as I take a look back about 13 years ago with some cost-effective card packs

Pack 7 of 10: A Strange Charity, Obvious Hilarity, and Cool as He can Be

First Look: To this day I don’t really understand the logic behind AARP’s “Drive to End Hunger”.  While I understand the issue of food insecurity amongst the elderly, why spend all that money on sponsoring a car to promote it?  Am I overthinking things?

To the Back: “Talk about heavy metal”…jeez, that joke’s so funny I fell off my dinosaur last time I heard it.

Say What: “Hello there fellow teenagers!”

Final Rating: 2 pit road penalties out of 10

Spade Racing’s Stars in Unusual Cars: Kurt Busch

Kurt Busch restarts his career with Phoenix Racing (2012)

Join me throughout this year as I take a look at when some of the sport’s biggest stars drove some unusual cars! (Presented in no particular order).

Why? Kurt Busch lost his ride with Team Penske after a camera caught a profanity-laced outburst Busch made towards Dr. Jerry Punch.  Seeking to restart his career, Kurt moved to Phoenix Racing, a longtime quasi-independent team that had recently gone full-time racing.

How successful were they? Busch had a heroic run in the 51 car at Sonoma, nearly winning the race before falling to third.  However, Busch struggled both in and out of the car the rest of the year, finishing mid-pack most of the time and missing the Pocono race after threatening a reporter the previous week at Dover.

What was the aftermath? Busch left for another semi-independent team, Furniture Row Racing, for the final five races of the 2012 season.  He would fully-revitalize his career at Stewart-Haas Racing, but controversy would continue to dog him even past retirement.  Phoenix Racing (which notably ran a huge smiley face on the hood after Busch left the team) would last one more year before being sold to Harry Scott.

Ranking on the Strange-O-Meter? 6 laughably bad documentaries out of 10—while it IS strange to see a former champion go from one of the sport’s top teams to an also-ran, it WAS Kurt Busch.

Nascar Debuts on Prime—What to Look For

COME BACK TOMORROW FOR A SPECIAL THREE-PART HERO CARD EXTRAVAGANZA!

This is a parody

Nascar enters the world of exclusive digital streaming today with the first of five Cup races airing on Prime, Amazon’s streaming service.  Here’s what you can look for:

—Miss-It-All, a revolutionary new series of remote-controlled cameras specifically designed to capture the entire track except for the exact spot where a spin started.

—Side-by-Side, a proprietary “double-box” graphic that shows you a commercial next to the current commercial, allowing you to never miss a commercial when watching a commercial.

—Faster Forward (beta), a new button available for certain viewers to fast forward ahead of dull moments in live coverage (WARNING: may cause tear in the time/space continuum).

—“Hi”-light Reel, a 30-60 second recap of all the important things that have happened in the race so far, in case you fell asleep and want something to complain about online.

—Ghost Car, not to be confused with Fox’s Ghost Car which shows a shadow of the fastest car’s lap, but rather a real-life ghost driving an open entry in all five races.

—Whatzat?, an interactive menu that allows fans to figure out what the heck certain sponsors actually do.

Race Picks (the last season?), Uncle Max vs. The Points Leader: CHARLOTTE

Summer’s almost here, and you know what that means!

No, not a broken AC system, although that’s what happened last year around this time at my townhouse.

Yes, it’s time to start thinking about vacations!  My annual trip to my friend’s shore house is quickly approaching, so of course that means having to work harder at work to make sure everything is taken care of.  Isn’t it funny how we have to work harder just to have a few days of not working at all?  But whether its prepping my other assistant managers for the upcoming aisle resets or making sure that we don’t have any refunds hanging out there to process, its worth it for a week-plus of grilling, relaxing, and sun.  Oh, and sunscreen.  Lots and lots of sunscreen.

TRUCK SERIES (3 wins) NC Education Lottery 200 (Friday 8:30 ET on FS1) LAYNE RIGGS—barreling towards a victory.

XFINITY SERIES BetMGM 300 (Saturday 4:30pm ET on CW) WILLIAM BYRON—for him its legitimately a “home race”.

CUP SERIES AdventHealth 400 (Sunday 6pm ET on Prime) Points Leader picks KYLE LARSONFavorite (2 wins): WILLIAM BYRON—I *FINALLY* get to pick him!  Next Favorite (1 win): DENNY HAMLIN—11 vs. the world, and hopefully not the viewing public vs. buffering.  Dark Horse: RICKY STENHOUSE JR.—14th in points—hey, I’m as surprised as you are!

Spade Racing Opens 10 Value Packs of 2012 Press Pass Cards: 6 of 10

Here’s my latest haul—ten 8 card packs of 2012 Press Pass Cards.  So join me as I take a look back about 13 years ago with some cost-effective card packs

Pack 6 of 10: Snapshot, Running Hot, and Flowbee Bought

First Look: Yeah, I still don’t get the appeal of these “snapshot” cards (this was the only one I got this time).  What’s the point of getting a card that’s slightly smaller than the others?  And why Robby Gordon of all people?

To the Back: Max Papis had a great driving career, and since then has gone on to a lucrative time as an equipment maker.  But I’ll always remember him for his dramatic turn to the woman who slapped him after that one race.

Say What: “If my facial hair grows over 0.05mm long, I don’t know what I’ll do!”

Final Rating: 5 stage breaks out of 10
