Race Picks San Diego: Spade Racing vs. AI

Join me as I test my wits against various AI programs in picking the 2026 Cup races.  Once they’ve made their picks, I’ll make my normal Favorite, Next Favorite, and Dark Horse picks (in addition to my regular O’Reilly & Truck Series picks).  At the end of the year we’ll see who knows more—me, or a soulless machine gobbling up water and electricity.

Claude Sonnet 4.6 AI (3 wins) sez: My pick (is) Shane van Gisbergen. He's the overwhelming favorite per most NASCAR analysts — since 2025 on road courses he's 6 for 8 at finishing 1st with a 2.0 average finish, the best Driver Rating by a healthy margin, and a perfect 2-for-2 record winning new debuting road courses (Chicago and Mexico City).

Truck Series (2 wins) Navy 250 Friday 7pm on FS1: KADEN HONEYCUTT—and I still think “Kaden Honeycutt” sounds like a WWE NXT name.

O’Reilly Series (3 wins) United Rentals 250 Saturday 5pm ET on CW: JUSTIN ALLGAIER—from the superspeedway that thinks its a road course to the military base that thinks its a road course.

Cup Series Anduril Race the Base 250 Sunday 4pm on Prime  FAVORITE (1 win): DENNY HAMLIN—he’s a modern-day Harry Gant, without the chaw.  NEXT FAVORITE (2 wins): ROSS CHASTAIN—do they allow watermelons on-base?  DARK HORSE (1 win): AJ ALLMENDINGER—Kaulig’s gotta win SOMEhow this year, right?

First Look: My first memorabilia piece of the set!  I’ve often wondered what happened to the pieces from these cars they CAN’T use, like curved parts—do they become paperweights at JRM?

To the Back: Alright, time for this team to start contending, right?  RIGHT?

Say What: “Looking like a middle school English teacher?  That’s incredible!”

Final Rating: 7 seconds for Prime to load out of 10

TNT Adds Lance Boyle to Broadcast Team

This is a parody

Earlier today TNT Sports announced its broadcast team for its upcoming slate of Nascar Cup races.  Anchoring the broadcast team for 2026 will be former MegaRace host, Lance Boyle.

“With the second edition of the Nascar in-season tournament coming around, we thought it was time to bring motorsports’ all-time greatest game show host”, a Turner Sports spokesman said in a prepared statement.  “MegaRace was really the in-season tournament of its time, in that it was really gimmicky and had no impact on reality”.

“It’s great to be back on the ol’ television set”, Lance Boyle said after being introduced in the Pocono media center.  “Hi, I’m Lance Boyle, and people often wonder if I’m real.  Well, here I am, in the flesh, and not just virtual flesh!”

Boyle brings years of experience to the position, including several sequels to MegaRace that weren’t seen by people who only knew him through Packard Bell Navigator.

“‘How you gonna handle these sharks, Nascar Cup racer?’, see that’s just some of the quips I’ll be bringing to the TNT broadcast booth”, said Lance Boyle.  “I’m Lance Boyle, and that’s what you’d be saying if you were me.”

TNT Sports also announced that several prizes to drivers who advance through the tournament.

“You could win a fabulous trip to the Seychelles—hey aren’t they supposed to be islands or something?”, Lance Boyle said.  “Or you could get a watch—now if anyone asks you the time, you’ll be able to answer, how about that?  Or covers for your car seats!  If I was a driver I’d love to win those, I really would.”

Race Picks Pocono: Spade Racing vs.

Google Gemini AI (2 wins) sez: Right now, all signs are pointing heavily toward Denny Hamlin taking the checkered flag at the "Tricky Triangle."

Truck Series (2 wins) off

O’Reilly Series (2 wins) MillerTech/KOA 250 Saturday 4pm ET on CW: JUSTIN ALLGAIER—batteries and camping, together at last!

Cup Series Great American Getaway 400 Sunday 3pm on Prime  FAVORITE (1 win): TYLER REDDICK—due for a comeback after last week’s wreckfest.  NEXT FAVORITE (2 wins): BUBBA WALLACE—currently 10th in points, too high for some, too low for others, just right to win this race.  DARK HORSE (1 win): AUSTIN CINDRIC—needs to “turn up the wick” now that “win and in” is “gone”.

It’s back to a hobby back for the first official 2026 cards.  Join me as I go through all 16 packs of 8 cards each!

Pack 2: A Nice Car, A New Star, and A Veteran by Far

First Look: Here we see one of the “car” cards, with a horizontal portrait.  I love the red white and black look, even though the black portion looks like it was earmarked for a sponsor who fell through (so, crypto).

To the Back: Nice to see this card from before Hurricane Hocevar won his first race—a bit of a Tropical Storm, if you will.

Say What: “I’m the short guy with the long career!”

Final Rating: 3 messy restarts out of 10
