Spade Racing has watched the 2020 Cup Series Rookie Class winnow down from six full-time drivers to only two entering their fourth season at the sport’s highest level: Christopher Bell and Tyler Reddick. We’ll keep following them, but here’s how things look going into Talladega:
POINTS STANDINGS: A slight change from five weeks ago—Christopher Bell is still fourth in the points standings, but Tyler Reddick has moved up to tenth. Bell has the advantage both in trying to advance to the next round AND this relatively meaningless contest. Advantage: BELL
BEST FINISH: Tyler Reddick takes a commanding lead here with a second win (at Kansas) to Christopher Bell’s single one. But he still might not advance to the Round of 8 because this playoff system is so damn confusing. Advantage: REDDICK
PERFORMANCE RELATIVE TO TEAMMATES: Joe Gibbs Racing has three drivers in the playoffs, and all still have a shot at the championship, with Bell between Denny Hamlin (2nd) and Martin Truex Jr. (5th) in points. Tyler Reddick, meanwhile, had a disappointing run at Texas, leaving him BEHIND teammate Bubba Wallace. Advantage: BELL
FINAL SCORE: CHRISTOPHER BELL has a slight lead over Tyler Reddick, but anything can happen at Talladega. And whatever doesn’t happen there will likely happen at the ROVAL.
