THREE FUN FACTS:
1. Daytona International Speedway was built to better control the crowds that gathered to watch racing on the famed hard-packed sand beaches of Daytona in the 40s and 50s. That’s right—Nascar used to race on BEACHES.
2. In order to build the high-banked turns, dirt was taken from the infield, forming Lake Lloyd on the inside of the backstretch. No pithy comment here, I just think that’s pretty cool.
3. Time Extension. Time Extension. Time Extension. Time Extension. Time Extention! Time Extension! The White Flag is out, this is the final lap! GOAL!
