23XI, Bubba Wallace Unveil McDLT “Throwback” Paint Scheme for Darlington

With this year’s Darlington “Throwback Weekend” happening May, many Nascar teams have already started unveiling their historic replica looks.  New team 23XI Racing made their announcement today that, in partnership with sponsor McDonalds, they will be running a “McDLT”-themed paint scheme on May 9th.

At least its not the "Hula Burger"

“We couldn’t be prouder to honor one of McDonalds’ most-iconic offerings, the legendary McDLT”, said Bill Calvin, director of marketing for 23XI.  “McDonald’s is relaunching its iconic lettuce and tomato hamburger on a very limited basis, and we’re here to get the word out about it.”

Driver Bubba Wallace hopes the change in liveries brings him luck at “the track too tough to tame.”

“I’m a little too young to remember the McDLT, but from what they tell me it was pretty much the Big N Tasty from the late-90’s”, Wallace said.  “Hopefully we can keep the 23 McDonalds McDLT Toyota on the hot-hot side and the competition on the cool-cool side.”

Calvin was elaborated on the details of the limited-time product relaunch.

“We got the idea from our Szechuan Sauce promotion—only this time there won’t be as many angry nerds”, Calvin explained. “For one day only we’ll be offering the only burger ever to be sold in a clamshell packaging—but don’t worry!  This time we’ll be offering it as a biodegradable plant-based casing.  Matter of fact, it might be the first menu item where the wrapping disintegrates before the food itself.”

For his part, Wallace has been working hard on researching the McDLT, unavailable since 1991.

“I’ve been reading up on it as much as I can”, Wallace said.  “I also tried to find some video footage of the original rollout, but all I see are those weird musical commercials with George (Jason Alexander) from Seinfeld.  Man, he REALLY lost a lot of hair.”

Despite a slow start to the year, Calvin said that McDonalds is pleased with 23XI’s early performance.

“I mean, we’re still a brand-new team—we’re still growing”, Calvin said.  “And I don’t think McDonalds will need to fix us wins at Daytona and Talladega—unlike SOME former racers in toupees.”
